Attendance Taker for Google Classroom: Redesign and Feature Expansion

📌 Overview

Launched 2020 on Google Workspace Marketplace

Attendance Taker is an app designed to simplify attendance tracking, class scheduling, resource sharing, and report generation within Google Meet and Google Classroom environments. Since its launch, the app has achieved over 1 million installations and maintains a solid user rating of 4.2/5, reflecting strong user satisfaction.

In 2023, I was tasked with redesigning the app’s user interface and overall user experience to provide a fresh, modern look and feel. At the same time, I led the design of a new feature to support Zoom meetings, expanding the app’s compatibility beyond Google Meet.

Although the app was popular during the COVID-19 period when many were learning from home, it is now being discontinued. While it still has active users, the number of subscribers has dropped, resulting in insufficient revenue to sustain the product. Therefore, management has decided to shelve the app.

Only a few key designs are included here to keep it concise, as showcasing all screens would be too extensive.

When designing the app for Google, I had to adhere to their design system and its constraints. For instance, the header image isn’t full-width due to fixed left and right padding that cannot be adjusted.
